How do I get the Prop 22 stipend? (California residents)
In order to qualify you must be enrolled in a marketplace health plan through a platform like Stride or Covered California, drive at least 15 hours a week on one app, and not be eligible to receive health care through Medi-Cal, Medicare, VA, another job, or a spouse/partner.
I don’t have a health plan yet. What should I do?
You can navigate to Stride's website and begin shopping!
Open Enrollment is usually from November through December, but you may qualify for a special enrollment based on being eligible for the Prop 22 stipend.
I’m already enrolled in a health plan. How do I get the stipend?
Once you are enrolled you will need to show proof to the company you contract with. They may have contacted you over email with instructions on how to submit proof of your health plan.
To show proof of your health plan you can:
- Take a picture of your health ID card that was mailed with your welcome packet
- Create an account on your carrier’s insurance portal, and download a copy of your ID card
- If you enrolled through Stride you can also reach out to our Member Experience team at support@stridehealth.com and request proof of insurance
How much will the stipend be?
The amount of the stipend depends on how many hours you drive:
-
If you drive between 15 and 25 hours per week on average, you’re eligible for 50% of the stipend, which is $245 for 2024
-
If you drive 25 hours or more per week on average, you’re eligible to receive 100% of the stipend, which is $490 for 2024
How often will I get the stipend?
The company that you contract with will award you the stipend every quarter (3 months). This means you’ll need to average at least 15 hours per week or more for the entire quarter in order to receive the stipend for that quarter.
How are the hours calculated?
The hours are based on your "engaged time," which is the time from accepting a drive to completing the drive. It does not include the time spent waiting between rides.
