When you export your tax report from the Stride app, depending on the data you tracked, you can receive:
Tax Summary: This arrives in a PDF file and includes your total income (if you used the Stride app for this purpose) and your total tax deductions (also broken down by category).
Expense report: This arrives in a CSV file and includes a list of all expenses entered into the Stride app. You'll be able to see a breakdown by date, category, job category, expense amount, tax deduction value, and notes.
Mileage report: This arrives in a CSV file and includes a list of all automatic and manual mileage entries. You'll be able to see a breakdown by date, distance, job category, tax deduction value, record type (automatic or manual), and any notes for the mileage entry.
Earnings report: This arrives in a CSV file and includes a list of all weekly income entries entered into the Stride app. You'll be able to see a breakdown by date, amount, and range.
A CSV (Comma Separated Values) file is a plain text file that contains a list of data and the Stride app exports your data logs using this type of file since they are compatible with many different programs.
We recommend importing your CSV file(s) into a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, or free office suite software for improved readability.
How to Open a CSV File in a Spreadsheet Program
-
Google Sheets
- Save the CSV file to your computer
- In the Google Sheets app, go to File > Open
- Locate and select the CSV file > If needed, select "Upload," and then drag and drop it or tap on the "Select a file from your device" button > Open
-
Microsoft Excel
- Save the CSV file to your computer or device
- In the Microsoft Excel app, go to File > Open
- Click "Browse" and in the File Explorer box, click the file type drop-down category to the right of the "File name" field > Select "All files"
- Locate and select the CSV file
- Follow the Text Import Wizard prompts to open your CSV file
Other CSV tips:
- If your computer has a default app for opening files, it may be trying to open the CSV file in a different program than you think (example below)! You can open your File Explorer (or "Finder," if on a Mac) from your desktop, locate the CSV, right-click, and select the intended application from the "Open with" option.
- If you need help changing your default app, please shoot us an email at taxhelp@stridehealth.com and we'll see if we're able to assist you with adjusting your computer's settings!
- If you're seeing '####' in the date column of your mileage or expense reports, the data isn't missing. This simply means that you need to drag and expand the column width in order to reveal the full date. You can fix the issue by making the date column wider in this spreadsheet.
