Your income might qualify you to enroll in a Marketplace health plan through Stride year-round!
The marketplace has recently added a new qualifying life event! A Special Enrollment Period is being offered to households whose estimated income for 2024 is:
- Above the range for Medicaid support in their state and
- Doesn't exceed 150% of the Federal Poverty Level ("FPL")
Enrolling in a Marketplace health plan is usually limited to the Open Enrollment Period ("OEP").
You can enroll outside of OEP if you experience a qualifying Life Event, which triggers for you a 60-day window or Special Enrollment Period ("SEP") within which you can enroll.
Some of the existing qualifying Life Events are:
- Losing employer-sponsored health insurance
- Birth of child
- Getting married
- Turning 26 and losing coverage through your parents
- Moving when you already have Marketplace coverage to a new city or area that has different health plans
- Gaining legal presence or citizenship in the US
- Being released from incarceration
How do I know if my income is in this range?
In states that have not expanded their Medicaid coverage, the estimated income range to enroll under this SEP would start at $1 above 100% FPL and go up to and include 150% FPL.
In states that have expanded Medicaid, the range would start at $1 above 138% FPL and go up to and include 150% FPL.
