Any straight lines on a map typically mean the Stride app was not able to correctly keep track of your GPS location. Unfortunately, this renders that drive unusable.
We all this the "airplane bug" because it makes your recorded drive look a bit like you took a quick trip in an airplane. It can occur if you have poor cell service, if your phone is running too many apps at once, or if your location settings aren’t correctly configured (i.e., if the precise location setting isn’t toggled on or the “Always allow all the time” location access option isn’t selected).
When your phone can't connect to GPS continuously, the app will look at your starting and ending points of that time period and connect the dots, so to speak.
When this happens, we recommend taking these steps:
1) Delete the incorrectly recorded drive
2) Add this drive manually
3) Close any apps that you're not actively using and double-check your location settings. This will help Stride function as expected!
If you are still seeing a straight line in your drives, you should follow these next steps to reset your app and get rid of the issue.
1. Kill and restart the app
You do so by double-clicking the home button of your iPhone (or by tapping the Recent Apps button on your Android phone) and swiping up on Stride.
2. Uninstall and reinstall the app
For iPhone:
1) Delete the app from your phone (don't worry, none of your account data will be lost!)
2) Re-download the app from the App Store
3) Log back in with the email address that you originally used to sign up
For Android:
1) Delete the app from your phone (don't worry, none of your account data will be lost!)
2) Re-download the app from the Play Store
3) Log back in with the email address that you originally used to sign up
3. Update your location permission settings
For iPhone:
It's possible your app is not tracking mileage correctly due to some location settings on your phone.
You can do so by following these steps:
1) Open the Settings app on your phone
2) Click "Privacy"
3) Click "Location Services"
4) Scroll down to the Stride app, and ensure that your location permissions are set to "Always"
For Android:
In your phone settings:
1) In your Settings app, go to "Location"
2) Make sure that your location permission is turned on at the top of your screen!
In your Stride app settings:
1) In your Settings app, go to "Apps"
2) Scroll down to the Stride app
3) Click "Permissions"
4) Make sure that your location permission is turned to "Always allow all the time" and that the "Precise Location" toggle is on.
Instructions can vary on your device type, the model of your device, and the version of OS installed on your device. Please email taxhelp@stridehealth.com if you need any help!
